Fujitsu Lifebook T580 review

Label:
The Fujitsu Lifebook T580 is a 10.1-inch convertible tablet netbook that has multitouch capabilities, an Intel Core i3-380UM CPU, a 128GB SSD hard drive and 2GB of memory. While it might be a little expensive for some, you do get some unique features, like an option for 3G connectivity.

The Fujitsu Lifebook T580 measures 10.6 x 7.4 x 1.5-inches (wdh) and weighs 3.2-pounds, which makes it very compact and easily carried around a long day of school or work. The design of the laptop is rather sturdy and seems to be designed well.

The 10.1-inch multitouch LED backlit display has a native resolution of 1366 x 768-pixels, which makes it 720p high-definition. The screen is rather glossy, so bright overhead light does reflect quite a bit. The quality of the screen is very good as colors displayed with accuracy and text seemed crisp.

Fujitsu Lifebook T580 review and specs

To turn the Fujitsu Lifebook T580 into a tablet, just rotate the screen 180-degrees and fold it down over the keyboard. This allows you to use the T580 as a traditional tablet PC by means of the included stylus or your fingertips. For most applications, you'll want to use the stylus because the Microsoft Windows interface (as well as most applications) are designed for use with a mouse pointer, so the stylus input method works best. You can, however, use your fingers if you wish, but it's a little less intuitive. Forapplications designed with multitouch in mind, it works great.

The keyboard is about the size of the average netbook, so users with larger hands and fingers might have a little trouble. The keys do give good tactile feedback, so it does work well for users with average sized hands.

In terms of connectivity, the Fujitsu Lifebook T580 has two USB 2.0 ports, VGA-out, HDMI-out, gigabit Ethernet and an SD memory card reader. There is also 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth wireless connectivity. While not standard, you can choose a model with 3G connectivity for Internet on-the-go.

The internal specifications include an Intel Core i3-380UM (1.3GHz) processor, 2GB of RAM, integrated Intel GMA HD graphics and a 128GB solid-state hard drive for added performance and battery life. You can elect to choose a cheaper model with a 160GB 5400RPM hard drive if you wish.

Performance is limited by the low-power CPU and integrated graphics, but the convertible netbook works well for the usual productivity tasks and some online streaming video watching. The integrated Intel graphics definitely rule out any 3D gaming, but a netbook shouldn't really be used for that anyway. TheSSD hard drive does speed up the system a little bit and you also get better battery life. Expect to get about 5-6 hours of battery life with this computer.

The operating system that Fujitsu pre-installs is Microsoft Windows 7 Professional (64-bit) and they also include Microsoft Office 2010 Starter, Microsoft Surface TouchPack, CyberLink YouCam and a complete PDF manual for the laptop. More price, visit [techreviewsource]
