Toshiba can’t really get enough. After releasing Libretto W100, Toshiba is now set to unveil another great product, its Toshiba’s AC100. This is Toshiba’s first netbook that goes on precisely Android. It is a new smartbook mobile internet device that runs 2.1 version of Google’s open source Android mobile operating system. Similar to a standard netbook it features a clamshell form factor, a full sized keyboard, web cam and a 10.1 inch TruBrite display and a resolution of 1024 x 600 pixel with LED backlighting.
According to Toshiba, what makes the AC100 different among the others is its battery life which is capable of 8 hours browsing and video playback. With an average use, it can even last up to seven days standby time before a recharge is needed.
AC100 has a 1GHz NVIDIA Tegra 250 mobile processor (built on a dual-core ARM Cortex-A9 MPCore processor); it has 512 MB of DDR2 RAM and up to a 32 GB solid state drive for storing and sharing of files, video, photos and music. Its wireless connectivity includes 802.11 B/G/N WLAN, optional 3G Mobile Broadband and Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR. A single HDMI connection is also provided for those who want to output video from the smartbook. It also has a 1.3 megapixel webcam with microphone which allows video chatting.
As for software, AC100 ships with Documents to Go for editing word processing documents, spreadsheets and presentations although it doesn’t allow creating a new one. It has an email client with POP3, IMAP, and Exchange support, an Opera Mobile browser and a Tosh media player which supports HD 1080p video playback.
The AC100 is also easy to carry with a weight of 870g and measures 26.2 cm wide and 21 mm thick. You can bring it anywhere you want anytime and enjoy its superb features at your convenience. There is also no need to worry about protecting the screen because of its rugged clamshell design. AC100 is definitely a good day to day companion.
Toshiba AC100 is expected to be available worldwide particularly in Europe, Africa and Middle East within the third quarter of the year. Price for this great product is yet to be confirmed. If Toshiba will be able to price it competitively then surely it will find its niche in the laptop industry.
